If you truly want to hear from God, you have to make space for him. There are no ifs ands' or buts about it. You can't expect to hear from God, if you're busier than a bee, attending to 100 things on your to-do list, attending to everyone and neglecting time with God in the process.
Trust me, I know what it's like to get so caught up in the daily hustle and bustle of trying to navigate life that we unintentionally forget to water our relationship with God. What I've realized is that on the days that I don't make intentional time with God, those are the days that are chaotic and I do not like chaos in any form as I'm sure do you.
When I am intentional about my time with God, I have a peace that surpasses all human understanding (Phillipians 4:7) and it is the greatest feeling. I can tackle the day efficiently, I am able to enjoy the day in all its glory and I don't allow anything or anyone to upset me.
If you're struggling with making time and space for God, I want to share with you some ways in which you can do so, below:
1) Ask God to search your heart: Allow the Holy Spirit to search your heart and remove anything that's in there that is not of God: worry, heartbreak, pain, resentment etc. These things are a hindrance to you, keeping you from hearing from God. Psalm 139:23-24
2) Pursue God & His presence: As mentioned earlier, we need to make space for God in our lives and that means actively pursuing him. We can't hear from God or clearly if we're too busy catering to everything else. Be intentional and set aside a special time for you and God to meet. That can be in the morning before you start your day (my favourite), in the evening after dinner or perhaps at night before you sleep. Throughout the day I talk to God; however, my devotion is dedicated for the morning time after I wake up. Psalm 84:2
3) Stay attentive: Our attention is being pulled in multiple directions on a daily basis. Our brains seem to be on go mode 24/7, we have an endless to-do list, social media is a distraction and the list goes on and on. During your time with God, eliminate all distractions. The devil will try and use anything or anyone to distract you from pursuing God. Perhaps turn off your phone or put it on airplane mode, go to a quiet area in your home, in order to focus on God. Not only should we be attentive during our devotion but we also need to be attentive in our daily lives because God can speak to us in different ways. It can be through someone else, the word, a song etc. Colossians 3:2
4) Have a clear mind: These days it seems almost impossible to have a clear mind due to all the thoughts it churns out every second. I know life can be a bit challenging these days but it's important to try and quiet the noise, especially of the outside world. Have you ever noticed that when it's time to study the word or pray, that's when your mind wants to remind you of tales long ago?😀 It's simply a distraction from the devil and as fast as the thought come, release it just as quickly. Psalm 94:19
5) Enjoy God's presence: Making time for God should not just be a thing on your to-do list that you check off. I can understand how easy it can turn to that but again we have to be intentional. The same way we enjoy hanging out with friends or a significant other, we should also be joyful at spending time with God and and basking in his presence. Personally, I incorporate worship music/beats, reading the word into my time with God. That way, it gives me direction on what to pray for.
I hope you were able to take something away from today's post to help you pursue your time with God. If you feel led, share with me in the comment what your time with God looks like🩷
'Til next time

i needed this… again. i know that He knows my heart and my pains. it sounds silly to be “mad” at Him, ha. but i do miss Him, and our closeness. i need to get out of my head and bloom back to His arms. i know He’s waiting… patiently, so graciously. thank you, Abi, for sharing this. x
